United States Army 489th Civil Affairs Battalion Unit Crest (Vis Amplificans Vim)
Criteria: This item is the unit crest of the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion. The unit's motto, "Vis Amplificans Vim," is printed along the bottom scroll and translates as, "By Broadening The Effort." The color purple alludes to this unit's Civil Affairs designation. The scroll and torch are adapted from the Civil Affairs branch insignia. The palm frond commemorates the unit's service in Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War. Also called distinctive unit insignia, this item is worn on the Army Dress Blue (ASU) Uniform.
