Product Description

Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal Lapel Pin

This lapel pin represents the Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal (MMEM), created to recognize Merchant Mariners who served on U.S. flag ships supporting American and allied military operations, including the Persian Gulf between August 2, 1990, and December 31, 1991, in direct support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. It was the first medal — as opposed to a ribbon bar — created for the U.S. Merchant Marine since the close of World War II, reflecting the significant role the fleet played in moving over 12 million tons of war matériel using some 230 chartered and government-owned vessels.

An award citation may accompany the medal to note the specific operation for which it was presented, and later awards have also recognized service in operations such as Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Sized for everyday wear, this pin lets veterans display this recognition on a suit lapel or jacket. It's built for accurate detail and lasting durability.
