Spanish Campaign Medal - Marine Corps
The Spanish Campaign Medal is a decoration presented by the U.S. Armed forces to recognize all military members who served in active duty during the Spanish-American War. There are two versions of the medal, one for the U.S. Army and one for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The U.S. Army version was awarded for service in the regions of Cuba, Puerto Rico or the Philippine Islands between May 11, 1898 - August 16, 1898. The Navy version was awarded to any Navy or Marine Corps member who served on active duty between May 1, 1898 - August 16, 1898. The colors of the ribbon were changed from red and gold to blue and yellow in 1913 after an agreement was made with Spain to no longer use their national colors on on U.S. service medals.
