After a period of 36 months of recruiting duty the ribbon becomes a personal decoration and may still be worn on the service persons awards rack, even if they leave the recruiting service. Created in June of 2000, the award was retroactive to any Air Force member who had preformed at least 36 months as an Air Force recruiter provided that the service member was still on active duty.
