Lapel Pin - Merchant Marine Meritorious Service Medal
Merchant Marine Meritorious Service Medal Lapel Pin
This lapel pin represents the Merchant Marine Meritorious Service Medal, established by Executive Order 9472 on August 29, 1944. It is awarded to seamen of any ship operated by or for the War Shipping Administration who are commended by the Administrator for conduct or service of a meritorious nature — recognition just below the level required for the Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Medal, the service's highest honor.
Designed by sculptor Paul Manship, the medal has been awarded only 521 times, making it one of the rarer decorations in the Merchant Marine's awards system. A seaman may receive only one award of the medal, with subsequent commendations denoted by a gold star affixed to the ribbon.
Sized for everyday wear, this pin lets veterans display this recognition on a suit lapel or jacket. It's built for accurate detail and lasting durability.
