Merchant Marine Vietnam Service Medal

The Merchant Marine Vietnam Service Medal (VSM) is a decoration presented to recognize service aboard a merchant marine vessels that displayed the American flag while in Vietnam waters between July 4, 1965 - August 15, 1973. Prior to 1992, this award was a ribbon with no medal. Merchant Marines transport cargo and passengers during times of peace, and serve as an accessory to the Navy and assist in delivering supplies and goods to military operations during times of war.
