Mountaineer Badge

The Mountaineering Badge is a Group 4 special skill badge of the United States Army, awarded to service members who successfully complete the Army Mountain Warfare School (AMWS). The school is located at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, Vermont.

Introduced in 2025, the Mountaineering Badge replaced the Ram's Head Device, which had been restricted to personnel of the New England and Colorado National Guard. Unlike its predecessor, the new badge carries Army-wide authorization and is available to all branches of the U.S. uniformed services — with the exception of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.
