Criteria: This is the unit crest or distinctive unit insignia for the Army Sergeant Major Academy. The Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) was established on July 1, 1972 at Fort Bliss, TX. It began instruction in January of 1973. There are 6 current creditable courses you can take: Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Master Leaders Course, Sergeants Major Course, and Executive Leaders Course. Unit crests are worn on the Army's Dress Blue (ASU) uniform and Army's Service Green uniform.
