Unit crests are also known as Distinctive Unit Insignia. This crest measures 1 5/32 inches in height. The gold horseshoe represents an honor received by the men assembled by Governor Alexander Spotswood, and responsible for the exploration of West Virginia in 1716. The red background represents Artillery.
